Editors return with their 8th studio album, Surface, Echo & Sound to be released on 30th October 2026. Flick through Editors’ back catalogue and one of the main things that strikes you is how the band never stay in the same place for long, never try to make the same record twice. The brooding post-punk of 2005’s Mercury-nominated debut The Back Room was swiftly followed two years later by the sky-scraping rock of An End Has A Start. 2009’s In This Light And On This Evening journeyed through nocturnal synthscapes inspired by Kraftwerk and Bowie’s Berlin trilogy, before The Weight Of Your Love stripped it back again within a more organic, darkly atmospheric setting.

If 2015’s In Dream found a balance between those analogue and synthetic elements, the collaboration with Blanck Mass, that began on 2018’s Violence reached its juddering apex on EBM, which arrived, thumping and pounding, into the world in 2022. On Surface, Echo & Sound, however, Editors have found themselves somewhere new entirely. After three albums written and recorded very much as in-the-studio projects, Editors go back to a more natural approach, something that harked back to their earliest days, sat in a practice room in Stafford, facing each other as they worked through songs together.
